Early Work
Appreciation towards Early Work for providing the following description:
Immediately upon entering, visitors are drawn in towards Grace’s current and permanent collections, which are housed in bespoke polished brass and white oak displays.
One such display features marble trays and flip-up mirrors that conceal ring sizers and additional inventory when not in use.
Directly behind the display cases, a wedge of Mountain Calcutta marble, affixed to the wall-mounted mirror, was designed to hold jewelry during fittings.
Los Angeles based designer Grace Lee, whose fine jewelry can be found at Steven Alan and Barneys locations across the US, was seeking to create a uniquely branded environment of her own, one that could function as both a showroom for her collections, as well as an intimate, private space for custom appointments. Grace tapped LA based design studio Early Work, formerly BROOK&LYN, to develop her spatial identity and to transform her 850 sq ft loft (located in downtown Los Angeles) into a completely bespoke brand experience.
The existing conditions of her 850 square foot DTLA loft presented two major challenges: a built-in kitchen ran the length of the space, and being that it was a newly renovated lease, we could not add or remove anything structural.

After sitting in on several of Grace's custom appointments, Early Work gained a better understanding of how Grace interacts with her clients and what functional and aesthetic elements she needed to transform the space and elevate the customer's experience with her brand.
Early Work began by dividing the loft into four distinct sections—a private office, a showroom, a lounge and a custom appointment area—ensuring that each space flowed from one to the other. We then designed and fabricated a bespoke set of furniture, fixtures, lighting and decorative elements to help showcase Grace's jewelry in a truly one-of-a-kind environment.

Grace's appointment desk, inspired by the concept of stacking, was designed and built using a single bent sheet of aluminum, white oak, lacquered MDF and marble.
The single slab of marble was cut into smaller parts, and designed to fit into a recess in Grace's desk. During appointments, Grace is able to use the felt-backed, small marble slabs as presentation trays.

Each light is spun by hand in Los Angeles, and features a custom perforated pattern that emits light in a jewel-like manner.
